An epic series commissioned by S4C in 3 seasons.  Intrigue and corruption in a fictional Welsh assembly. Following a similar tone to Nordic Noir, this epic series tells the story of intrigue and corruption within a fictional Welsh assembly after the ruling coalition is thrown into disarray and scandal after the death of their party leader while in the company of a prostitute. The series deals with current and timely stories, Brexit, LGBTQ issues, education and the role of women. With a stellar cast including Matthew Gravelle (Broadchurch) and Cath Ayers (Keeping Faith).

Producer Branwen Cennard says of the series:

“I do hope Byw Celwydd will engage people who wouldn’t normally watch a political drama…also being entertaining for those people who just want to pour themselves a glass of wine, sit back and be entertained. I hope it will work on both levels.”

Awards/Nominations:

Catherine Ayers was nominated for a 2016 BAFTA in Wales for Best Actress in her role as Angharad Wynne.
