“Mankind”, 13′, 2019
Executively produced by Emmy award-winning actor, comedian and writer Stephen Fry. Mankind is from young BIFA nominated director Layke Anderson (Dylan’s Room). The couple Will (Ricky Nixon) and Evan (Alexis Gregory) are having a domestic row as Evan discovers Will has unbeknown to him signed up for a mission to Mars.
“Gagaoolala – Find YourStory” is a global online streaming service specialized in LGBTQ+ content, which is provided by Taiwan based Portico Media, who is also the founder of Taiwan International Queer Film Festival (TIQFF) and Queermosa Awards, GagaOOLala is Portico Media’s latest effort to share LGBTQ stories from around the world with a wider audience.
Jay Lin, CEO, Portico Media, said:
“Portico’s mission is to provide a platform for such excellent films as Mankind. The acquisition of Layke Anderson’s short film is a real enrichment for our platform. We are happy to present new European quality films to our audience.”
Layke Anderson, Producer, said:
“Humans are obsessed with labels, therefore Mankind has naturally been labelled as a LGBTQ film, though sexuality is never once questioned nor discussed. It isn’t political nor has any agenda that isn’t universal, and despite a contained and familiar Earthbound setting, the story veers into sci-fi territory – therefore it also carries another label. I believe personally that science fiction is just a reflection of our reality – a mirror of sorts, but also a projection of our hopes and desires.”
Ebba Eriksson, Creative Director, Videoplugger, said:
” We are proud to be championing the talented director Layke Anderson’s work. And we are sure his short film Mankind, will be enjoyed by the GagaOOLala’s audience.”
