Piton de la Fournaise (“Peak of the Furnace”), the shield volcano located on the east side of Reunion Island on the Indian Ocean, erupts overnight, from April 27 into April 28, 2018. This is the second eruption since the beginning of the year; the previous eruption took place on April 3 and lasted only a few hours.
