It is a strong, real, and sometimes even brutal drama series that shows the darkest side of human existence but also the brightest in the idealism and enthusiasm of young social workers.

The series follows the everyday drama of social workers in a social welfare centre in a big Polish city. Each episode focuses on a different social problem and character struggling for help. Wiktor Okulicki, who is a newly nominated director of the centre, is a man of action and not many words. He has been a social worker for over 15 years and during this time he faced not only numerous difficult social problems but also went through a serious personal crisis. His young, enthusiastic, and idealistic co-workers meet individuals who often have to face the toughest and most depressing circumstances and here they work together in the hope they can actually help someone in need.
